Chapter 15:
When he heard those words, Kiyohara Jun, who had originally sunk deep into withdrawal, stirred.
Boss Mori had sent someone to pick him up?
Just as Kiyohara Jun was getting a little impatient to stand up, planning to hurry away from this place that had left him with such a heavy psychological shadow, Sato Miwako, who had fallen into anger ever since Kiyohara Jun said Mori Ougai was a lolicon pedophile pervert, spoke.
“I want to meet the person here to pick up Kiyohara-kun.” Sato Miwako’s voice suppressed her anger. “To actually lay hands on a little girl who is, at most, twelve years old, all for his own perverted desires.”
“Even if he’s the boss of a yakuza organization, that is still illegal, and it is unforgivable!”
After Sato Miwako said this, the police officers present all nodded, filled with righteous indignation. Only Megure Juzo, who had just stepped out for a while, looked completely bewildered, with no idea what had happened to make his subordinates so angry.
Not only Megure Juzo, but Date Wataru and Takagi Wataru, who had just returned from a crime scene, also looked at the roomful of furious colleagues and fell into the same confusion.
“This is what happened.” One police officer noticed the confusion on the three of their faces and took the initiative to explain what had just happened.
“What?” After hearing that officer’s account, Megure Juzo’s expression turned solemn. He turned his head to look at Kiyohara Jun. “Can you guarantee that everything you said is true?”
Kiyohara Jun opened his mouth, wanting to defend Mori Ougai, but worried that the more he explained, the darker things would become, he finally closed his mouth and chose not to answer Megure Juzo’s question.
Megure Juzo looked at Kiyohara Jun’s evasive manner, and a decision had already formed in his heart. His expression grave, he nodded and said, “I understand.”
What had this police officer understood…?
Kiyohara Jun’s instincts told him that whatever Megure Juzo had understood was definitely not what he wanted to hear.
Yamanashi Yuta sat in the reception room of the Metropolitan Police Department, his expression calm as he waited for the police to release the person he had come to pick up this time—the Port Mafia’s quasi-executive, Kiyohara Jun.
It had truly been a long time since he had accepted such a simple mission.
As one of the Port Mafia’s hidden agents in Tokyo, and one loyal to Mori Ougai at that, whenever Yamanashi Yuta came to the police station to fish someone out, it was usually a lawless Port Mafia member who had committed murder right out on the street. And generally, they were all middle- or lower-level members of the Port Mafia.
As for someone of a quasi-executive’s level, this was Yamanashi Yuta’s first time coming to the police station to retrieve such a major figure.
When he heard that he was coming to retrieve a quasi-executive, Yamanashi Yuta had already prepared himself to face a situation where the person being retrieved had gone on a killing spree in broad daylight. Yet what made his jaw drop was that the charge for which this quasi-executive had been taken away by the police, as spoken from the boss’s own mouth, was actually dropping out before completing compulsory education.
This made Yamanashi Yuta breathe a sigh of relief, while also producing a trace of contempt for that quasi-executive who was said to be only fourteen years old.
What kind of idiot had to send himself into a police station over a charge like that?
However, when the door of the reception room opened and a white-haired, golden-eyed boy walked in from outside, Yamanashi Yuta realized that he had been utterly, terribly wrong.
Just from that boy’s light, airy glance, Yamanashi Yuta felt as though he had been frozen solid by those golden eyes, which held not the slightest trace of emotion.
In the eyes of the owner of those eyes, he was no different from a dead man. As Yamanashi Yuta stood up stiffly and saluted Kiyohara Jun, this was the only thought left in his mind.
He felt as though that tiny trace of contempt in his heart had been completely seen through by Kiyohara Jun. It was not until Kiyohara Jun gave him a slight nod that he finally felt warmth return to his body.
“Ki-Kiyohara Quasi-Executive.” Yamanashi Yuta stammered a little. That trace of contempt in his heart vanished completely, leaving only fear behind.
Kiyohara Jun did not speak. Looking straight ahead, he directly passed Yamanashi Yuta and sat down on the single-person sofa in the reception room.
Although Kiyohara Jun had little authority in front of Kogu Takuto, in front of ordinary Port Mafia members, he had not forgotten the words Kogu Takuto had nagged into his ear thousands of times. He had always maintained a quasi-executive’s dignity.
Yamanashi Yuta respectfully walked behind Kiyohara Jun and stood there with his head lowered.
“You’re Yamanashi-kun, correct?” Megure Juzo walked in with several police officers. When he saw Yamanashi Yuta standing respectfully behind the sofa while Kiyohara Jun sat expressionlessly on it, he finally gained a trace of the feeling that this boy called Kiyohara Jun really was a high-ranking member of the mafia.
“Officer Megure.” When Yamanashi Yuta looked toward Megure Juzo, the respect on his face disappeared completely, and a shrewd look appeared on his face once more. He said bluntly, “I believe you have no right to detain Kiyohara-sama.”
“Kiyohara-sama has done nothing illegal or disorderly.”
“Kiyohara-kun indeed hasn’t, but the same may not be true of your boss.” Megure Juzo’s expression was solemn. “I now suspect that your boss may have molested a child.”
Yamanashi Yuta: ?
Yamanashi Yuta was somewhat bewildered. How had this perfectly normal topic gotten dragged onto their boss? However, the dutiful Yamanashi Yuta still intended to defend his boss. After all, being a pedophile was hardly a good reputation to have.
Wait.
At that moment, Yamanashi Yuta got stuck.
He remembered that when the boss recruited him, there had always been a little girl with blond hair and a red dress following him. At the time, he had assumed this was the boss deliberately bringing along his own child to make him lower his guard, and he had even sighed over the boss’s boldness back then. Thinking about it now, that little girl indeed had not looked the least bit similar to the boss.
Could the boss actually be a pedophile?
Yamanashi Yuta fell into deep thought.
【Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha】
【Looking at the life-doubting expression on this Yamanashi Yuta guy’s face, I feel like Mori Ougai is done for】
【After all, Mori Ougai’s behavior really is suspicious. He’s always carrying around a little girl who doesn’t look the least bit like him】
【Mori Ougai, this time, even if you jumped into the Yellow River, you couldn’t wash yourself clean hahahahahahaha】
【Is this the revenge of the scriptwriter group hahahahahahaha】
Kiyohara Jun:
Discovering that the situation was developing in a rather bad direction, Kiyohara Jun directly opened his mouth and interrupted their conversation.
“Let’s go.” Worried that the more he said, the more mistakes he would make, Kiyohara Jun spoke succinctly. After he finished, he did not look at anyone else’s expression and directly rose to leave.
Perhaps because they were affected by Kiyohara Jun’s presence, no one stopped him. The officers present who would have dared to stop Kiyohara Jun had all left because of other matters.
For example, Matsuda Jinpei and Hagiwara Kenji had both returned to the team and deployed for a sudden bomb-disposal mission before following Megure Juzo to find Yamanashi Yuta.
Yamanashi Yuta glanced at the police officers present, then took one tentative step outside. After discovering that no one stopped him, he also followed Kiyohara Jun out.
“Are we just letting them leave like that?” Sato Miwako, who wanted to chase after them, was stopped by Megure Juzo. She could not help asking.
Megure Juzo nodded heavily. He glanced at his phone. A text message he had just received was displayed on the screen, and he said with some complexity, “We can’t stop them.”
After that, no matter how Sato Miwako pressed him, he refused to answer.
“Kiyohara Quasi-Executive, should I take you directly to the apartment that was arranged for you?” After getting into the car, Yamanashi Yuta asked somewhat carefully.
Kiyohara Jun glanced at the time. He was not aware that the survivor from the Tokyo branch was actually another traitor in disguise, and just as he was about to say to go to the stronghold, he thought of something.
He remembered some inexplicable things the bullet comments had said. In the end, the words on the tip of his tongue turned, and he said, “Mm.”
When they arrived at the apartment Mori Ougai had arranged for him, Yamanashi Yuta dropped Kiyohara Jun off, then fled as though escaping for his life.
And so, Kiyohara Jun once again successfully encountered Matsuda Jinpei, who had just arrived at the apartment.
Kiyohara Jun: ???
Kiyohara Jun:
【Hahahahahahahahahahahaha】
【An ill-fated bond, an ill-fated bond】
【I’m dying of laughter hahahahahahahahaha】
【I feel like Kiyohara Jun is completely speechless hahahahahahaha】
【I can’t breathe from laughing. An ill-fated bond】
Matsuda Jinpei and Kiyohara Jun stared at each other for a while, and in the end, Matsuda Jinpei was the first to lose.
“All right, all right.” Matsuda Jinpei waved his hand and said helplessly, “I’m not messing with you anymore. I’ll make a call first.”
As he spoke, under Kiyohara Jun’s wary gaze—this was the chief culprit who had caused him to enter the police station—he took out his phone.
“Hey, Hagi, aren’t you a little too slow?” Matsuda Jinpei said into the phone with dissatisfaction.
For a moment, Kiyohara Jun, who had no idea where he should go, watched expressionlessly as Matsuda Jinpei and Hagiwara Kenji bickered noisily over the phone, until a shout came from the phone’s speaker.
“Run! The bomb’s started moving!”
Matsuda Jinpei’s expression changed drastically. He shouted into the phone, “Hagi? Hagi!”
Kiyohara Jun looked at Matsuda Jinpei as he screamed Hagiwara Kenji’s name in a voice that sounded as though his heart and lungs were being torn apart. He had not wanted to meddle in other people’s business at first, but in the end, he still sighed.
Ordinary people could not ignore another person’s death and stand by with folded arms. Kiyohara Jun told himself this, though rather than telling himself, it was more like he was finding himself a reason to save someone.
“Move.” Kiyohara Jun reached out and pushed aside the police officer blocking his path. He strode quickly toward the building. Under everyone’s puzzled gazes, he touched the building’s outer surface with his hand.
Something unbelievable happened. Huge and brilliant golden halos, shaped like strips of text, suddenly appeared in midair. They revolved silently around Kiyohara Jun. There was clearly no wind at the moment, yet with Kiyohara Jun as the center, a wind suddenly rose. Everyone was forced by the gale to raise their hands in front of their faces.
This was a phenomenon they could not understand.
His hair and black coat stirred in the wind. Kiyohara Jun lowered his eyes and said softly:
“Ability: Dust.”
Under everyone’s shocked gazes, an entire high-rise building turned into loose sand in that instant. The sand grains swept along the furniture and other objects inside the building as they surged down toward the ground, blotting out the sky. The dust and sand raised by the wind blinded everyone’s eyes. Only Matsuda Jinpei, who was wearing sunglasses, saw everything clearly.
Amid the wind and sand, only Kiyohara Jun stood untouched by dust.
