Chapter 11:

Kiyohara Jun looked at the bustling crowd outside the station. On the large screens on both sides of the street, the new song by Back Street Girls, which Takuto liked, was playing. Compared to Yokohama, where mafia members could be seen on the streets at any time, this scene was far more peaceful. Kiyohara Jun, who was used to seeing pedestrians hurrying along the streets of Yokohama, could not help sighing inwardly.

Tokyo. The public order was truly good. It really was so peaceful.

Yet in the very next second after Kiyohara Jun sighed, a middle-aged man who looked like an exhausted corporate drone happened to pass by Kiyohara Jun, then suddenly clutched his own neck and collapsed.

…? Kiyohara Jun looked at the man who had suddenly fallen over, utterly baffled.

Kiyohara Jun, who knew absolutely nothing about first aid and at most only knew how to bandage a wound in an emergency, took a step back and left space for the two young men who rushed over, one with medium-length hair and the other wearing sunglasses.

“He has no vital signs.” The young man with medium-length hair crouched down and checked the man’s breathing and pulse, then shook his head heavily.

Everyone present turned their gazes toward Kiyohara Jun, who was dressed in black and looked so cold and stern that he did not resemble a good person.

Kiyohara Jun noticed the gazes gathering on him and looked back around in confusion.

Why were they all looking at him?

But in the eyes of the onlookers, the boy dressed in a black suit seemed to have noticed their stares. He had originally been looking at the corpse, but now he raised his eyes and looked back around.

There was no emotion at all in those golden eyes, as though they were already dead in his eyes.

So—so terrifying! Some of the more timid onlookers even took a step back after meeting Kiyohara Jun’s gaze.

Regardless of whether he had killed the person, this boy was definitely not a good person. That was the common opinion of everyone present.

“I am a police officer, Matsuda Jinpei of the Security Bureau Mobile Unit □□ Disposal Squad.” The young man in sunglasses, who had just finished making a phone call, took out his police ID from his pocket. His gaze landed on Kiyohara Jun. “Although the deceased appears to have died from a heart attack, we cannot rule out the possibility that someone induced the attack.”

“As a witness and…” When he said this, the young man in sunglasses paused almost imperceptibly and glossed over a word. “You still have to stay.”

Me…? Kiyohara Jun looked in confusion at the young man called Matsuda Jinpei as he said those words to him. Having encountered a death case the moment he arrived in Tokyo, and even personally witnessed it, Kiyohara Jun thought expressionlessly that he was going to take back his statement that Tokyo was very peaceful.

“All right.” Kiyohara Jun expressionlessly glanced at the vomit the deceased had expelled when he collapsed. “But I need to leave before three in the afternoon.”

Because the Tokyo branch members who had not rebelled were surrounded, they had no way to come pick him up. Therefore, he had arranged over the phone with those members of the Tokyo branch when he would go to their stronghold.

That time was three in the afternoon.

Matsuda Jinpei glanced at Kiyohara Jun through his sunglasses and said somewhat indifferently, “Of course. Keeping you here is only a necessary procedure.”

The police cordon was put up, and the onlookers had already been dispersed. By the time Megure Juzo from the First Investigation Division arrived, the three suspects, including Kiyohara Jun, were already at the scene.

“Darling!” Uchida Haruna, the wife of the deceased Uchida Ayumu, had been called to the scene. When she saw the deceased’s body, she would probably have thrown herself onto it if the police maintaining the scene had not stopped her.

“How could this happen?” After calming down for a while, Uchida Haruna wiped her tears and spoke while sobbing. “Although my darling had heart disease, he always took very good care of himself. In daily life, I also paid special attention to making sure he did not touch anything that might trigger a heart attack.”

“Why, even after all that, did my darling still leave me because of an accidental heart attack?” Uchida Haruna tried to calm herself down, but she only remained calm for an instant before she began sobbing violently again.

As the only female police officer present, Sato Miwako stepped forward and gently patted Uchida Haruna’s back, comforting the woman who had lost her husband.

“Although your husband did indeed die from a heart attack, it may not necessarily have been an accident.” Matsuda Jinpei, who had fallen silent after the First Investigation Division arrived, suddenly spoke. “And you, ma’am, could also be the culprit.”

“Jinpei-chan.” The other police officer, who had medium-length hair, spoke somewhat helplessly.

“Do not be so direct.”

“Hagi, I am not as softhearted as you.” Matsuda Jinpei shrugged. “Everything I said is the truth.”

“Haruna absolutely cannot be the culprit.” Another suspect present, Uchida Yoko, shook her head. She touched the short hair by her ear and said sincerely to Megure Juzo, “Haruna loved my elder brother very much. She absolutely could not have killed him.”

“As for me, that is even more impossible.” Uchida Yoko shook her head. “My elder brother and I had a very good relationship since we were young. This time, he was worried about my marriage, so he took leave from the company and planned to come find me.”

She placed her gaze on Kiyohara Jun and said pointedly, “If my elder brother’s death was not an accident…” The implication was obvious.

At this moment, Kiyohara Jun finally realized that he had actually become a criminal suspect.

Kiyohara Jun looked blankly at the two women before him, both of whom had used their words to throw off the possibility that they had committed murder. The person with the greatest suspicion at the scene had actually become him, an innocent ordinary passerby.

…? Was this reasonable?

Kiyohara Jun looked at Uchida Haruna and Uchida Yoko, then looked at the deceased, who had vomited before his death.

It felt like an accidental attack. To think that even an accidental attack like this had to be considered as possible homicide… Kiyohara Jun, who knew nothing about Tokyo’s crime rate, was somewhat speechless.

【! Did Kiyohara Jun guess who the culprit is?】

【I suspect so, because he specifically looked twice at the deceased’s vomit.】

【But that is clearly unreasonable. Just by looking, how could he analyze who the culprit is from vomit that shows nothing at all?】

【It is actually very simple. There are only a few causes that can trigger a sudden heart attack. Exhaustion, emotional agitation, and the like can all be ruled out. If we do not consider accident, then drug effect is the greatest possibility.】

【So Kiyohara Jun guessed who the culprit is under the assumption that this was not an accident, but he probably still is not certain whether this was an accident.】

【Right. If it really was an accident, then everything would have to be overturned. But would the official story treat an accident as plot? Obviously impossible.】

【Drug effect. The one who could interfere with the deceased’s food and drink is his wife, so the culprit is the wife?】

【Holy crap, this wife’s acting is really good.】

【Why did she kill her husband? An affair again?】

【No, it is replacement literature. Did not expect that, did you?】

【?】

【Someone who has seen later parts will tell you: the wife loves the husband’s younger sister, and Jun really saw it.】

【? What do you mean he saw it? Explain in detail.】

? I did not guess who the culprit is. Besides, is this not an accident?

Wait. The wife loves the husband’s younger sister???

Kiyohara Jun was shocked. He looked at Uchida Haruna, then at Uchida Yoko, and began to somewhat doubt life.

If the bullet comments were right, then this really was a murder case

Then the police here in Tokyo should be decent enough not to wrongfully accuse him, a good person… right?

“Please come with us,” Megure Juzo said to Kiyohara Jun. “For now, you appear to be the most suspicious person. Please come with us to the police station first.”

…?

Kiyohara Jun took out his phone and checked the time. Forget going to the police station. If the case did not end quickly, he would be late. In the Tokyo branch’s current situation, if he was late, the members who had not rebelled would very likely assume that he had been unable to enter the surrounded branch and that was why he had not arrived.

So Kiyohara Jun spoke.

“Test the vomit.”

The people who had already been more or less looking at Kiyohara Jun all fixed their gazes on him after he spoke.

The white-haired, golden-eyed boy’s eyes contained not a trace of emotion. He merely stood there, yet the air around him seemed to freeze.

Uchida Haruna, who had originally been sobbing, paused almost imperceptibly, and this was noticed by Hagiwara Kenji, who had originally wanted to go over and comfort her.

Hagiwara Kenji nudged Matsuda Jinpei with his arm, and Matsuda Jinpei noticed this as well.

“Test it,” Matsuda Jinpei said. He spoke to the somewhat hesitant Megure Juzo. “The body has to be autopsied anyway, so there is no harm in testing it early.”

Megure Juzo thought for a moment, then nodded and agreed to Kiyohara Jun’s words.

The vomit was collected and prepared for examination. While they were waiting for the test results, Kiyohara Jun realized that even this would not be in time, so he had no choice but to speak again.

“Love cannot be concealed.” After considering his words, Kiyohara Jun looked at Uchida Haruna and said softly, “Mrs. Uchida.”

【?????】

【Did Jun really see that this was not an accident?】

【Too godly, too godly.】

【As expected of the Scriptwriter Group. His grasp of the human heart is truly formidable.】

Uchida Haruna, who had been sobbing with her head lowered the whole time, stiffened after hearing Kiyohara Jun’s words. Then she slowly raised her head, took a deep breath, and said calmly, “There is no need to test it. I killed him.”

After saying such shocking words, Uchida Haruna continued very calmly, “Actually, I already had a feeling. As long as Ayumu’s body and vomit were sent for testing, sooner or later, everyone would know that I killed him.”

Sato Miwako, who had originally been comforting Uchida Haruna, and Uchida Yoko both froze.

“I put cardiac glycosides in today’s breakfast. That was what caused him to suffer a heart attack.”

“H-how could that be!” Uchida Yoko said in panic. “You are joking, right? Haruna, you and my elder brother always had such a good relationship. How could you possibly kill him?”

“No. I actually did not like him at all.” Under everyone’s gaze, Uchida Haruna turned her head to look at Uchida Yoko. Everyone could see the love in her eyes.

After noticing Uchida Haruna’s gaze, Uchida Yoko could not help taking several steps back.

“Because I liked you, I married Ayumu, who looked similar to you.” Uchida Haruna gazed at Uchida Yoko, and the corners of her lips curved slightly. “Originally, as long as things continued like that, it would have been fine. But Ayumu actually noticed, and he wanted to find you a marriage partner.”

“Recently, my elder brother kept urging me to go on matchmaking dates. So it was because of that…” Uchida Yoko looked somewhat dazed. “But even so, you still should not have killed him. After so many years together, did you truly have no feelings for him at all?”

Uchida Haruna did not answer. She only smiled, then took the initiative to extend both hands toward the police officer who had taken out handcuffs.

Seeing that the matter had been resolved, Kiyohara Jun, who had no nerve for paying attention to love, hatred, and emotional entanglements, nodded in satisfaction. Having successfully cleared his suspicion, he planned to leave just like that.

“Wait. Although I do not want to meddle, I still have a question to ask you.” Driven by his sense of responsibility, Matsuda Jinpei called out to Kiyohara Jun. When Kiyohara Jun heard the police officer, who looked somewhat lackadaisical, ask this question, he felt as though he had been struck by five bolts of lightning.

“You look no older than fifteen at most. So why are you not in school on a weekday, and what are you doing here?”

Everyone’s gaze once again gathered on Kiyohara Jun, while Kiyohara Jun stiffened in place.

School…?
